These are my first set of drawings in my visual journal which all use a variety of the formal elements to create i believe interesting and dynamic illustrations of these musicians. Im not really sure where these are going to go as as far a visual investigation goes as i am pretty much just treating them as starting points for now. The ones i have selected so far feature musicians that are androgynous in their appearance as i am trying to research into this area or at least somewhere along the lines of involving musicians and there influence on our idea of culture within society as it is a subject i am quite fascinated by and am interested in.
This is the first one of Prince. I used watercolour and of course the colour purple to help illustrate it.
Annie Lennox. A highly influential artist and musician due to her breaking gender norms of the time.
Marc Bolan. An insitigator in the glam rock movement.
Siouxsie Sioux. An influential rock/punk singer who was a pioneer for female singers in those kind of genres with Goth emerging in her time as well.
Boy George. Infamous for his androgynous appearance he was a very important person for establishing new ways of thinking about gender in popular music of the 80's.
